Safety Harbor is Tampa Bay's best kept secret. A quiet community nestled on the banks of Upper Tampa Bay, it is away from the hustle bustle of city life, yet just minutes from world class Gulf beaches, major shopping malls, Tampa International Airport, several nationally acclaimed performing arts centers and easily accessible to several major league sports venues. It is neighbored by the major cities of Clearwater and Tampa. This quaint community has distinctive shops, award winning restaurants and plenty of family fun. There is certainly something for everyone, from its beautiful parks laden with historical significance and nature's artwork to its shops and restaurants and outdoor activities. Downtown Safety Harbor sets the mood for our community with its palm trees, canopied sidewalks and brick lined streets. Safety Harbor's Main Street offers you the opportunity to succumb to your curiosity while perusing through captivating shops, sampling new cuisine and rediscovering a love of art displayed in one of the area's finest galleries on Main Street.
Safety Harbor's tree-lined streets and small-town appearance bring an atmosphere of community to our quiet city. Like most towns, we have schools, churches, a community center, a library, a Post Office and a fire station located in our historic downtown business district.
Safety Harbor boasts a number of parks and playgrounds for use by its residents and visitors scattered throughout the city. Safety Harbor City Park is the largest with 21 acres. Over 90% of the play area can be accessed by children of ALL abilities. It has playground areas for both the 2-5 yr old set and 5-12 yr old kids. City Park's amenities include a sand volleyball court, baseball and softball fields, the Ian Tilmann Skate Park batting cages, lighted basketball courts and a dog park. Some of the other parks' amenities include lighted tennis courts, baseball/softball fields, basketball court and nature trails. The amenities in most of the parks include play areas, shelters with picnic tables and benches, and water fountains. All Safety Harbor Parks are well maintained throughout including clean modern restrooms.
Located on the site of Count Odet Philippe's agricultural plantation is now Philippe Park. This oak shaded park situated on the banks of Tampa Bay also contains a Native American ceremonial mound. Managed by the Pinellas County Park System, this beautiful park offers many recreational venues including covered picnic pavilions, walking trail, a boat ramp, fishing, canoe trails, grills, playgrounds, and ball fields. The park is open from 7:00 AM to dark.
